Antioxidant and astringent
Jewel-like pomegranate seeds produce an astringent and antioxidant juice when pressed. With a fresh, citrusy scent and a ruby colour, the juice cleanses and brightens the skin.
The pomegranate (Punica granatum) is a small tree of the Lythraceae (loosestrife) family that thrives in warm climates. It grows beautiful flowers of a vibrant red colour which slowly turn into a fruit. Inside their leathery outer rind, pomegranate fruits contain a multitude of seeds that are wrapped in an edible, fleshy and juicy coating.
It is no exaggeration to say that the pomegranate is a sacred fruit. Present in many religious texts, lore and legends across the globe, it usually represents abundance and fertility. Some people even think it was the forbidden fruit described in the bible that Eve and Adam ate against God's will.
