Soothing and detoxifying
Cypress oil can be used topically on the skin to soothe sore muscles, increase blood circulation and help to detoxify the skin. The main constituents are alpha-pinene, carene and limonene which give cypress oil its properties and its fresh, resinous perfume.
Description
Cypress trees are a coniferous evergreen that can be found in many parts of the world including the Mediterranean, Asia, Australia and North America. Lush uses the Cupressus sempervirens (sempervirens meaning evergreen) a species of the cypress tree, native to the Mediterranean. These trees are tall, reaching heights of 140 feet, with small flowers and brownish-grey cones.
Cypress oil is almost colourless and has a clean woody energising aroma which is used as part of perfume and aromatherapy blends. Aromatherapists believe it can be calming during times of emotional stress, making it a wonderful ingredient in bath products. It is particularly comforting during the winter season because it is said to stimulate feelings of joy and happiness.
Lush obtains cypress oil from the young twigs, stems and needles of the cypress tree by steam distillation in Spain.
